Offering a very rare museum worthy Tesbih that dates to the earliest days of Faturan bead making, circa 1925. You will note the tesbih is comprised of more than one faturan "block" or "rod". This is not abnormal as the earliest faturan rods were made very scarcely due to the many attempts of trial and error involved, and the sheer complexity and difficulty of ensuring successful faturan block making e.
The types of material and respective percentages, cooking temperatures and times, pressure levels, among other known and unknown factors. Here is an excerpt from "The Komboloi and its History" by Aris Evangelinos describing what one early faturan master-maker says fourth edition, page 79, para. 2: I keep to our formula, and make round rods of about 20 cms long and of a diametre ranging from 6 to 30 mms, sometimes more sometimes less, according to the size of the bead I want to have made.As you see from the above description, these rods were rather small in volume and it was quite common for beads makers to run out of the same material, in which case material from other rods or blocks was borrowed, as is the case with this strand. The strand weighs a little over 46 grams and every type of material is simichrome positive. The color is unique and its beauty cannot be described, but I tried to take pictures in different lights for accuracy. In the hand, I have not handled a strand with such a "heavenly" feel, and it really feels like you are holding a little treasure. You will note that each bead has a flat surface which makes it reflective when looked at.
This is why this type of strand is called "mirror" Faturan. Mirror Faturan beads from a long time ago are really rare and always viewed by experts as being very exclusive and best-of-the-best. Also, please note the plastic inserts in each bead, which was very elaborate and time consuming to perform.
This strand was clearly commissioned and made for a VIP. This is an exceptionally rare komboloi.
